Dynaudio AIR & SYSTEM 6000 used on MATRIX REVOLUTIONS
When you break box office records with the biggest one-day opening in history, what do you do for an encore? Well, in the case of the Wachowski brothers' Matrix movie franchise, you release the third installment of the Matrix trilogy only six months later during the fall blockbuster season. Matrix Revolutions opened on November 5 to an astonishing one-day mid-week opening of $24.4 million in the United States, with the first weekend's grosses expected to exceed $70M.
The score of the Matrix Revolutions is primarily classical orchestration with the bulk of the score written by Don Davis, composer on the original The Matrix and Matrix Reloaded. For Matrix Reloaded, the edge-of-your-seat "Freeway Chase" and the "Burly Brawl" scenes were co-written by Don Davis and British composer Ben Watkins, known by his alter ego, Juno Reactor. In Matrix Revolutions, the "The Trainman Cometh", "Tetsujin" and the "Navras" cues were co-written by Davis and Watkins, while Watkins wrote the epic 9-minute long end credits music.
Earlier this year Andy and Larry Wachowski, the writers and directors of the Matrix films invited Watkins out to Los Angeles, where he set up shop at the Chapel Studio in Tarzana. We caught up with Ben while he was reviewing the mix of the end credits music on a Dynaudio AIR 6 5.1 system. This is the very system he recorded with, supplied to the production by TC Electronic.
