Contour 1.8 MKII
The Audiophile Voice, January 1999, Volume 8, Issue 1, by James T. Frane
0NE INGREDIENT ESSENTIAL to a great product is attention to detail, a fact that Dynaudio has realized and employed from their inception in 1977. They go so far as to make their own drivers by hand in one facility and cabinets in another to ensure dust-free conditions for the drivers. Dynaudio also sells drivers to other manufacturers, although these are different than the ones used in their own speakers. in 1995, Dynaudio set up its U.S. sales and distribution office in a suburb of Chicago. Until then, the only real U.S. presence they had was via its many OEM consumers. Dynaudio's manufacturing facilities are based in Skanderborg, Denmark, where both the production and R&D work are conducted. The company's worldwide sales, marketing, and distribution offices have headquarters in Hamburg, Germany.
Dynaudio makes the Audience, Contour and Reference lines of loudspeakers. There are 10 speakers in the Contour line (the 1.8 is about in the middle of the line). The Contours are available in wood veneers of cherry, rosewood, ash, beech, and bird's eye maple.
Description
The Countour 1.8 Mark II is a bass-reflex, floor-standing speaker with ports located on the rear of the cabinet. Removable foam plugs are supplied to fill the ports, if the user desires, and though I did not find as much technical guidance for their use as I'd have liked, I experimented with their effects (more on this later).
