Dynaudio Emit. Which one to choose?

Standmount or floorstander? Compact or full-size? No matter the size of your room, hi-fi starts with Emit…

Whether you’re building a system from scratch, or upgrading your speakers in an existing set-up, choosing the right ones for your room can sometimes be a little confusing. You might be short on space, and need your speakers backed-up against a wall or on a shelf – or you might have the room for a full-size multi-channel rig.

No matter what your circumstances, there’s something in our Emit family that will fit the bill. Click the links below to find the right one for you…

Emit 10

It might be the most compact in the family, but Emit 10’s performance belies its size.

Emit 10 is the ideal choice if you have limited space. It’s capable of surprising bass performance, but it won’t overwhelm the room even when cranked to neighbour-bothering volumes – and it has the added advantage of not requiring a lot of space behind it, so you can put it close to a wall.

And if you’re going all-in on a home cinema set-up, then Emit 10 also performs perfectly both as a front or rear channel for your 5.0 or 5.1 surround-sound system.

If space is really tight and you’re forced to place your Emit 10s right up against the wall, in a corner or even on a shelf, then be sure to use the included foam plugs. They can be used to block the rear port for more controlled bass.

Consider if…

  • Using in a stereo pair in a listening space smaller than 15m2 / 160ft2
  • Using as satellite speakers in a surround-sound system in smaller rooms

Look elsewhere if…

  • Using in a stereo pair or surround-sound system in a listening space larger than 15m2 / 160ft2 - see Emit 20 if you want standmount speakers, or Emit 30 if you’re a floorstander fan
  • You need one or more horizontal centre-channel speakers - in that case see Emit 25C

Emit 20

Emit 20 is a full-size standmount speaker. We wouldn’t recommend putting these on a bookshelf – use a pair of Stand 20s instead.

Just like the smaller Emit 10, Emit 20 performs just as well either in stereo or as part of a home-cinema set-up. Use Emit 20 for your front and rear surround channels and experience a little more ‘oompf’ in your 5.0- or  5.1-channel configuration.

They’ll need a little space to breathe, so make sure they aren’t backed-up right against a rear wall or in a corner if you don’t want things to get boomy. You can use the included foam plugs to temper their bass performance if you need to.

Consider if…

  • Using as a stereo pair in a listening space between 10m2 and 20m2 / 110ft2 and 215ft2
  • Using as part of a surround-sound system in room 10m2 and 20m2 / 110ft2 and 215ft2

Look elsewhere if…

  • Using in a stereo pair in a listening space larger than 20m2 / 215ft2 – in that case, see the floorstanders – Emit 30 and Emit 50
  • You need one or more horizontal centre-channel speakers - in that case see Emit 25C

Emit 20 spec highlights

  • 18cm MSP Esotec+ woofer with 38mm copper-clad aluminium wire voice coil and double ferrite magnet
  • 28mm Cerotar fabric soft-dome tweeter with DSR (Dynaudio Secret Recipe) coating and strontium carbonate Ferrite+ ceramic magnet. With Hexis and resonance-defeating back-chamber

Emit 30

If you look at Emit 30’s footprint, it isn’t much different from an Emit 20 on a stand – so it’s fine to use in a similar medium-size space. In fact, the decision between Emit 20 and 30 might just come down to whether you prefer standmount speakers or floorstanders aesthetically.

What Emit 30 offers over Emit 20 is more power and headroom, plus slightly deeper and beefier bass, thanks to its twin 14cm mid/bass drivers and larger cabinet.

A pair of Emit 30s will work in stereo (obviously), as well as the front channels in a compact multi-channel system. Or, if you’re truly going big with your rig, as rear or satellite speakers (but you’ll need a larger room for that)…

Consider if…

  • Using in a stereo pair in a listening space between 10m2 and 20m2 / 110ft2 and 215ft2
  • Using as part of a surround-sound system in room 10m2 and 20m2 / 110ft2 and 215ft2
  • You prefer a floostander, either for acoustic or aesthetic reasons

Look elsewhere if…

  • Using in a stereo pair in a listening space larger than 20m2 / 215ft2 – in that case, see Emit 50
  • You want a dedicated midrange driver in your loudspeaker – in that case, see Emit 50
  • You prefer a stand-mounter of similar power and character – in that case, see Emit 20
  • Using in a stereo pair or surround-sound system in a listening space smaller than 10m2 / 110ft2 – in that case, see Emit 10
  • You need one or more horizontal centre-channel speakers – in that case, see Emit 25C

Emit 30 spec highlights

  • Two 14cm MSP Esotec+ woofers with 38mm copper-clad aluminium wire voice coil and double ferrite magnet
  • 28mm Cerotar fabric soft-dome tweeter with DSR (Dynaudio Secret Recipe) coating and strontium carbonate Ferrite+ ceramic magnet. With Hexis and resonance-defeating back-chamber
  • First/second-order hybrid crossover
  • Dual-flared rear bass-reflex port
  • 18mm MDF cabinets, in three custom laminate finishes; Black, White and Walnut. Black magnetic grilles are included

Emit 50

If you have a decent amount of space – and by that we mean a large room and enough for some breathing-space behind the speakers – Emit 50 could be for you.

Make no mistake: they’re big boys. If you’re a fan of somewhat imposing floorstanders flanking your equipment stand or TV, they’ll make as much of an aesthetic statement as a sonic one. If you prefer your speakers to be more heard than seen, though, you might want to look at Emit 30.

Emit 50’s keyword is ‘presence’. Their twin woofers are capable of putting out hair-raising power and controlled bass, leaving the dedicated midrange driver and tweeter to handle fine details. It’s serious scale in every regard.

Consider if…

  • Using in a stereo pair or surround-sound system in a listening space between 15m2 and 30m2 / 160ft2 and 320ft2
  • You prefer a floorstander, either acoustically or aesthetically
  • You want a dedicated midrange driver in your loudspeaker. Benefits of this include cleaner mids, more defined bass, and the most accurate imaging possible in the Emit range
  • You intend to play at high volume

Look elsewhere if…

  • Using in a stereo pair or surround-sound system in a listening space smaller than 15m2 / 160ft2 In that case see Emit 20 or Emit 30
  • Using in a stereo pair or surround-sound system in a listening space smaller than 10m2 / 215ft2 – in that case, see Emit 10
  • You need one or more horizontal centre-channel speakers – in that case, see Emit 25C

Emit 25C

Emit 25C is a dedicated centre channel for home-cinema systems. If you’re going for a true multi-channel setup (either a front-only three-speaker system, or a larger 5.1-and-up surround-sound setup) then Emit 25C is a no-brainer: power, control and finesse, rolled into one compact unit.

Far from only being Emit’s centre-channel offering, the 25C is a fantastic loudspeaker in its own right. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could use it as a single, horizontal speaker underneath your TV set – or even set-up a pair (or trio) of Emit 25Cs in a horizontal row of sonic power behind a projector screen or under your TV. This can be either as a compact home cinema set-up, or in conjunction with satellite speakers (Emit 10 or 20 is a great choice) for a full system with a perfect voice-match between the front channels.

Consider if…

  • Using as a centre channel or centre channels together with a stereo pair (or two other Emit 25Cs for a home-cinema setup
  • Using as a centre channel or centre channels in a larger 5.0 or 5.1 surround-sound system
  • You need one or more horizontal centre-channel speakers

Look elsewhere if…

  • You prefer a stand-mounter, either acoustically or aesthetically – see Emit 10 or Emit 20
  • You prefer a floorstander, either acoustically or aesthetically – see Emit 30 or Emit 50
  • You want a dedicated midrange driver in your loudspeaker – see Emit 50
